Perseverance Is Not Enough If You Want To Become A Good Guitar Player

You have tried and tried but you are still struggling. You know a few basic chords on guitar and can play some easy songs.

However when you get to faster and more complicated songs your playing just keeps falling apart. Then there’s the more advanced techniques and chords like barred chords.

You just can’t seem to figure out how to do them right. You feel like you are stuck. You are doing everything you can to push through, to keep going, but its hard going and you are not progressing.

How can you move to the next level?

Many People Get Stuck Early On When Learning To Play Guitar

This happens often. You decide to learn to play guitar, you go out and buy one, hit the Internet, and start to learn some basics.

For most people this is difficult and frustrating, but maybe you found something that worked and you were able to learn without much problem. You made it through some basic chords and a few easy songs.

But now you are bored with it. You want to go to the next level, but you do not quite know what that is. And if you do know, you do not know how to get there.

There has to be a better way.

Trying To Learn Guitar Needs to Happen In The Right Order

This is a very big weakness with online learning methods. They do not usually present things the right way or in the right order.

Because of this they tend to jump around from one thing to another without a plan and things become out of order. Songs or techniques that are beyond your level appear before you are ready for them.

What that does is makes you frustrated, so you stop trying to learn those new things. Either because you think you can’t do it or because you can’t see how to bridge the gap.

That’s no fun. I’ve been there myself. It is very frustrating. So what do you do in this situation?

Perseverance And A Good Teacher Will Get You Where You Want

Perseverance will get you this far. But it may not get you any further. At this point you need specific help and direction, not brute force dedication.

I persevered and did not give up but I struggled and progressed at a snail’s pace. It took me many years before I finally broke down and admitted I needed someone to help me. So I started to look for that help and finally found it.

I found a teacher who understood where I was, that had experience with my struggles, that overcame them himself and who helped many others overcome them too.

If he could do it for them, he could do it for me I told myself. And I was right.

That’s what you need too. You need to find a good teacher who will help direct you get to the next level.

Finding A Good Teacher Is The Key

But how do you know if someone is a good guitar teacher? Do they have to have a music degree? Do they have to have been in a band and toured? Do they have to be able to shred?

They may have those attributes, but they are not what make someone a good teacher.

What you want to look for is a teacher that has been trained specifically on how to teach guitar. You want to find someone who only teaches guitar and not a jack-of-all-trades teacher.

Such a teacher will have a deeper and wider knowledge of the instrument and also know the techniques you will need to move to the next level and go as far as you want to go with guitar.

Having perseverance is a great attribute to have and if you find a good teacher to go along with it you will become as good a guitar player as you want to in less time and with minimal frustration.
